‘Heart of Namchang’, the English rendition of ‘Namchangor Anteshpur’ released in Gauhati Press Club,
ABKK Kamarupa, Guwahati, 4th August 2026: ‘Heart of Namchang’, the English version of ‘Namchangor Anteshpur’ translated from Assamese to English by Sri. Bipul Deuri, well-known translator and writer was formally inaugurated at Guwahati Press Club in a glittering book release function organised by Banphool Prakashan, Guwahati.
Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Bora, a stalwart of contemporary Assamese literature and former President of Asom Sahitya Sabha graced the occasion as the Chief guest and inaugurator of the book. Dr. Saranan Deuri, eminent writer and former President of Deuri Sahitya Sabha, along with Sri. Indrajit Dutta, well known writer and former President of Kaziranga Wildlife Society, and Sri. Rupam Barua, well known writer, senior journalist, and former Editor of Safura Children’s Magazine graced the function as the Guests of Honour. Sri. Soumyadeep Datta, the writer of ‘Namchangor Anteshpur’ also graced the book launching function.
The event began with a silent prayer in solidarity with the devastation and misery caused to millions in Assam due to the flood situation of the state.
The event began with a beautiful introduction regarding the significance of the Nature’s Beckon led rainforest conservation movement, and the valiant leadership of Sri. Soumyadeep Datta that materialised the protection of the largest contiguous rainforest in the Brahmaputra valley as Dihing Patkai National Park. Smt. Novanita Sharma, writer and Guwahati Coordinator of Nature’s Beckon connected everyone with the significance of the ‘Namchangor Anteshpur’, and ‘Heart of Namchang’, the English version of this well acclaimed book on the rainforest conservation movement of Assam. She connected everyone with the importance of ‘Heart of Namchang’ for the national and international reach-out of the essence of the rainforest conservation movement that also speaks about the unique people supported forest conservation movements of Assam.
All the dignitaries were felicitated with beautifully woven traditional Deuri gamosa, as a mark of celebration for the recent honour of GI tag for the traditional textiles and garments woven by the Deuri community of Assam. Sri. Bipul Deuri welcomed everyone to the august occasion with his welcome address. He expressed his gratitude to all the dignitaries and those who assembled for the event. He shared a heartfelt account regarding Sri. Soumyadeep Datta’s impactful writing and his extraordinary determination in preserving the precious forests of Assam, which found its best reflection in his masterpiece ‘Namchangar Anteshpur’. Sri. Deuri expressed his hope of enriching this spirit of forest conservation through this translation which will connect readers from across India and from around the world with this unforgettable rainforest conservation movement of Assam.
Sri. Soumyadeep Datta also spoke on this occasion as the author of the original Assamese book ‘Namchangor Anteshpur’ which was first published in 2010. Sri. Datta shared his gratitude to Sri. Bipul Deuri for translating this book into English. He also said that this book documents the saga of the rainforest conservation movement which led to the creation of the Dihing Patkai National Park in Assam. He said this book chronicles the contribution of everyone in Nature’s Beckon and the supporters who strengthened the rainforest conservation movement over three decades. He expressed his gratitude to all the dignitaries and everyone present during the book launching event.
Thereafter, Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Bora engaged everyone in an engrossing speech in which he spoke on the present predicament of our world where people have realised the importance of forest conservation. He said preservation of natural forests is of paramount importance, while referring to the growing awareness regarding the importance of natural forests to secure the future of mankind on this planet. He connected the audience with the essence of holistic biodiversity conservation which has been effectively propagated among the people of Assam through Nature’s Beckon’s four decades of work. He applauded the dedication and lifelong efforts of Sri. Soumyadeep Datta in leading Assam on the path of forest conservation. He eloquently spoke about the days when no one knew about the occurrence of rainforest in Assam before Soumyadeep Datta began this movement for the conservation of the rainforest in Upper Assam. Dr. Bora appreciated Soumyadeep Datta’s work.
He applauded the lucid translation work of Sri. Bipul Deuri, and said that ‘Heart of Namchang’ will indeed take the spirit of this great conservation movement to people across the borders. He appreciated the tireless efforts of Sri. Bipul Deuri in enriching translation literature with his literary creations.
Dr. Saranan Deuri shared an insightful speech where he emphasised the significance of wildlife conservation and the importance of creating valuable translation works like the ‘Heart of Namchang’. He hailed the work of Sri. Soumyadeep Datta, and appreciated the efforts of Sri. Bipul Deuri in creating such significant literary works. Dr. Deuri shared important information about some traditional practices of the Deuri community where we see practices related to wildlife conservation, and respect for Mother Nature.
Sri. Rupam Barua shared a heartfelt deliberation about the Nature’s Beckon led rainforest conservation movement which involved a large support base in Assam under the leadership of Sri. Soumyadeep Datta. He said that ‘Namchangar Anteshpur’ is an integral part of the rainforest conservation movement because this narrative gave momentum to the spirit of this movement which encompassed steep struggle on the part of Soumyadeep Datta and Nature’s Beckon. He appreciated the contributions of Sri. Bipul Deuri in driving the nature conservation movement with valuable translation works, and said ‘Heart of Namchang’ will surely be regarded as a landmark literary work for the rainforest conservation movement of Assam.
Sri. Indrajit Dutta enlivened the event with his lively speech. He spoke about the dynamic approach of Nature’s Beckon, and said Soumyadeep Datta’s leadership in the environment field has been a blessing for Assam. He spoke about Nature’s Beckon’s commitment towards the preservation of natural forests while referring to Nature’s Beckon’s ongoing efforts for the permanent protection of the proposed Poba Wildlife Sanctuary, the proposed Pancharatna Wildlife Sanctuary, and the proposed Ajagar Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam. Sri. Dutta appreciated the contributions of Sri. Bipul Deuri towards translation literature, and said this English rendition of ‘Namchangor Anteshpur’ will greatly benefit the nature conservation of India.
The event was graced by many writers, activists, journalists, poets, educationists, social workers, students, and youths including Sri. Debeswar Malakar, Sri. Bibhuti Gogoi, Dr. Manorama Sarma, Sri. Dibyajyoti Borkotoky, and Sri. Ujjal Jyoti Das. Many of them shared their best wishes and views regarding the book.

Nature’s Beckon, Northeast India takes this opportunity to express our gratitude to Sri. Bipul Deuri and Banphool Prakashan, Guwahati for bringing this valuable English translation of ‘Nachangar Anteshpur’ which carries the eternal spirit of the three decades long Nature’s Beckon led Rainforest Conservation Movement of Assam which led to the creation of Dihing Patkai National Park in 2021. ‘Heart of Namchang’ will further strengthen this spirit among many in different parts of India and around the world. This book is a great contribution towards biodiversity conservation because the present Dihing Patkai National Park is an abode for the largest population of Hoolock Gibbon, and many other primate species, it is the last stronghold of the critically endangered White Winged Wood Duck, and is one of the best protected habitats for Asian Elephants in Assam. This rainforest provides home to a large number of rare flora and fauna.
The Bengali rendition of this book titled ‘Namchanger Anteshpur’ translated from Assamese to Bengali by Smt. Nibedita Chakravarty and published in 2025 by Vistaar Publications, Kolkata facilitated a connection for the Bengali readers with this conservation movement, and now this english version by Sri. Bipul Deuri will take it anywhere in the world. ‘Heart of Namchang’ brings a rare occasion for celebration in Assam.
