Press release on Chinar Book festival 2026


ABKK Kamrupa, Srinagar,16th July 2026: The third edition of the Chinar Book Festival is scheduled to take place in Srinagar from July 18 to July 26, featuring nearly 200 publishers, over 250 book stalls, and around 800 participants, including writers, poets, artists, and scholars.

The event was officially introduced during a press conference in Srinagar, where National Book Trust, India Director Shri Yuvraj Malik stated that the festival has evolved into a calendar event, reflecting its growing stature as one of the country’s significant literary and cultural gatherings. He further noted that the festival aims to torch a vibrant reading culture while providing an inclusive platform for literary dialogue, cultural exchange, and intellectual engagement.

During the press conference, National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) Director Shamas Iqbal announced that several distinguished poets have been invited to participate in a grand Mushaira, adding a rich poetic dimension to the multi-lingual event. The organisers also underscored that special emphasis has been placed on children’s activities, with dedicated programmes designed to cultivate reading habits and creative expression among young minds.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, to mark the ceremonial commencement of the festivities. He said, “A special programme dedicated to the children of Srinagar is being organised at SKICC from 18 to 26 July. The event is open to all, free of charge. Beyond a wide display of books, it will feature interactive interactive sessions and dialogues where children can directly engage with special personalities.”

Chief Convenor Dr. Amit Wanchoo was also present at the press conference and shared his insights regarding the event. Earlier in the day, a symbolic Shikara Rally highlighting Kashmir’s cultural heritage was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, to mark the ceremonial commencement of the festivities.
